Madame Tutli-Putli Stop Motion Animation Review

Madame Tutli-Putli.PNG

I just watched Madame Tutli-Putli stop motion which has an unusual title for a movie. Made by filmmakers Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski, known as Clyde Henry Productions, produced by National Board Film of Canada. This horror-mystery 18 minute film is quite scary in some part, especially the scene when a robber cuts open a man's stomach, stealing his kidney. Madame Tutli-Putli was released on 2007 and won a grand prize during 2007 Cannes Film Festival.

My review:
This animation has a really dark theme and extremely detailed sets. So the story starts with bunch of suitcases and other belongings which are waiting to be boarded in a train. It seems that Madame Tutli-Putli is the one who owns that whole luggage, while waiting for a train to arrive, she is standing beside the railway. As the sky is getting darker, the train finally arrives and she sits near the window. The room where she is staying is very narrow, which actually only fits for 4 people but being filled with 6 people, including all their stuffs. Nothing weird happens except the old guy passenger who is sitting infront of her, he looks like a pervert. Until suddenly the train stops, and she doesn't know why... Time passed, she finally realises that several robbers are coming inside the train, she tries to ask for help, but all of the passengers inside her room are sleeping. Scared to death, she finally collapsed and finds out that the rest of the passengers are missing when she wakes up. Sneaking into another room and while looking at the glass, she sees something that humans never want to see. A robber is being seen cutting open a man's stomach, taking out his kidney. Before the robber realises that Madame Tutli-Putli is there, she quickly escape and run as fast as she could. Losing direction, she is deeply in despair, until she sees a moth which leads her way out. Obviously not a way out that she wants.

I enjoyed watching this animation, but I don''t get any single moral value from it. But I noticed that the human puppets are so alive, especially their eyes which look like a real human's. As I mentioned before, the sets' details are amazing, they really payed a lot of attention into it, with all those samll stuffs. I'm actually quite startled with the scene when the robber opens up a man's stomach, just like gore movies. But overall, this animation is interesting to watch, looking at how smooth all the puppets' reactions.
