Yuri Norstein is a Russian animator known best for his work, Hedgehog in The Fog and Tale of Tales. He was born at Kamensky district, Penza Oblast, Russia on 15th September 1941, so he is 75 years old now
The techniques which he likes to use is using multiple glass panels to make his animation looks 3D and move around the objects between those panels.

Yuri's short animation films:
1. The Fox and The Rabbit (1973)

This is Yuri's first animated film which the drawings are drawn by his wife, Francesca Yarbusova. The story is pretty unique as it tells about a rabbit who's cozy wooden home is being snatched away by a fox. The fox kicks out the rabbit from her home and she has been wandering in the woods by her own in sadness. Some big and "look scary animals" such as a wolf, a bull, and a bear try to help the rabbit getting her home back, but they ended up fail because of the fox's temper which they can't stand it. The story ends up with a chicken helping out the rabbit and both of them live happily ever after. I really recommend this movie! There's a moral story behind this short animation which is never underestimate a person from its appearance. We might think that those big animals have the ability to kick out the bad fox, but instead they are the one who's running away. And the hero... is actually a rooster, small and seems without potential. Stereotypes do influence the way we think and this animation gives me an inspiration for one of my projects.

2. The Heron and The Crane (1974)

It is a love story about a heron and a crane which is pretty confusing. Both of them actually love each other but they are prestigious among one another. When the heron proposes to the crane to marry him, she refuses, then later on she regrets it and she approaches the heron that she would marry him and this time the heron refuses it. The story keeps going on and on like that.

3. Hedgehog in The Fog (1975)

This animation tells the story of a hedgehog who always go to his friend, a bear cub to count stars in the evening while drinking tea. One day, as usual, the hedgehog already brings a raspberry jam to share with his friend, but on the way to his friend's place, he encounters a fog in the middle of the forest. The hedgehog is confused and he doesn't know what to do, he can't even see his own paws. He goes trough a lot of things and seeing some weird animals he hasn't seen before which makes him so scared. Fall into the river and lost his jam almost make him hopeless, but luckily a kind dog managed to find him his raspberry jam and return it to him. Finally, the hedgehog and the bear cub can enjoy their evening time together. #

4. The Overcoat (1981)

Ever since Norstein made his Tale of Tales, The Overcoat was his newest film. The Overcoat is the adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's story .

5. Tale of Tales

Tale of Tales hold the record as one of the bests animated film ever. Truthfully, I'm feeling a little bit confuse when I watched this film. The movie starts with a green apple, I don't really understand what does it mean but more or less it symbolises life, a connection, or something almost similar to that. There are a lot of characters such as a little girl, a poet, a bull, a little boy and a crow, a soldier and dancers, and a wolf. Some of the scenes involve a war and I think the story mostly tells about memories. In my opinion, this movie has a very deep meaning, but I don't really recommend on watching this one because its confusing haha. I don't know about you guys, but you may try!
