Introduction of Peter Jackson

We are given an assignment to do which is an essay but formatted in power point. We are free to choose any film or animation directors to find their influences in the film industry and also 3 of the common aspects that we can find from he/she. At first I was confuse who to choose as there are a lot of directors which I like to discuss on, but finally I made up my mind.

My chosen director is Peter Jackson, as his films (Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit) are my top favourite movies of all time. I had a hard time choosing between Peter Jackson and James Cameron because Avatar is also one of my favorites. But I decided to work on Peter Jackson since I'm still really curious on the mystery behind the filming process of The Hobbit.

I borrowed two books from Invercargill City Library:
1. Peter Jackson: From Gore to Mordor
2. Peter Jackson: From prince of splatter to Lord of the Rings

I found a lot of useful information from the first book, such as what is Peter's intention or background in making The Lord of the Rings and what inspires him to become a successful director like now. So far, Peter Jackson is the second highest grossing director by worldwide box office for around $6.520 dollar. He is known for his DIY style and sense of humour, which we often find in his movies. For example in Lord of the Rings, Legolas and Gimli share a funny atmosphere, both of them seems doesn't get along well, but they are actually unsepperated buddies. When they are fighting thousands of orcs at helm's deep, Legolas and Gimli are competing how many orcs they have killed and when Gimli looses, he has a funny expression on him.

Peter Jackson was born on Halloween (31st October 1961) at Pukerua Bay, outside the capital of Wellington. Kingkong 1933 original movie is the one which inspires Jackson a lot in making his own movies after watching it when he was 9. Ever since then, Jackson keeps making stop motion animation with him 8mm video camera which was given by his parents on his 8th birthday. He really likes giant creatures and make his own dinosaur using clay for his stop motion animation.

Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies are his most notable movies, including Kong Skull Island (2005). Three of them are my favourite and I still can't believe how does a person's imagination be so broad and amazing! I will continue my discussion on Peter Jackson right on my next post :)
