Stop Motion Animating Part 2 (BSA 124)

Stop Motion Animating Part 2

We continued our work on Wednesday around 12 PM just after lunch, the weather was nice, just a little bit cold after we finished which is around 3PM. It took us around 3 hours to make 20s animation. Today, we are still focusing on Act 1 (the scene when Zack and Lulu are sitting on the couch), I'm in charge of dragon frame, Chloe on Lulu, and Megan with Zack. On halfway I took turn with Chloe, but this time I'm animating Zack and Chloe in charge of the dragon frame.

Lip sync and Lulu waking Animating process:
So Megan did the lip syncing timing on excel, after she imported our animatic in toonboom which makes us a lot easier to do our animation. Since we have made the mouth shapes for each of the character, so we just stick it onto the character's face with glue tape. These are some of the pictures that we took during the filming process:

Animating Zack:
After I took turn with Chloe, I finally got the chance to animate the real life characters. Zack's personality is moody, edgy, and he doens't wanna Lulu to bother him in whatever he is doing. So, there are couple of scenes when Lulu is trying to approach Zack, Zack always wants to avoid her. I tried to move his hands and game controller away from Lulu, even if in the screen it might be only 1 or 2 seconds, but when we actually animating it, it is quite hard. Zack's position has to remain stable, if he moves a little bit, I have to reposition him again with the same one from before. Sometimes If I make a significant moves, his hands (which are made from clay) will start to fall apart, and I have to mold them again. It happens again and again, and we still have like more than halfway more to go. But, it was pretty interesting.

Dragon framing:
In my part, I noticed that if I shot couple of shots directly (with the same scene), the lighting on the screen will look different. Either it is brighter or dimmer. So I learnt that it is better to copy and paste the previous shot if I want the shots to remain the same for more than 2 times. Most of the times I toggled because I think it makes easier for Megan and Chloe while they are animating Zack and Lulu. Onion skinning doesn't seem to work in Act 1, but we might try using it when we are animating the Act 2 which is my part.

The Animation:

The scene starts when Lulu is asking Zack, "So, watcha doin?" and Zack says get lost lost Lulu, the Lulu is walking towards the couch and sits beside him. And after that Zack and Lulu talk a bit, and so far that's what we got for now. It took us around 3 hours to make 20s animation.
