Animation Research (Tentacles Part 1)

Image result for tentacles gif

There are several scenes in my animation which requires the tentacles to move, especially when the kraken is attacking Iantha (the princess). I tried to figure out how to make the tentacles move smoothly since my animatic is quite rough. So I did some research on how do tentacles move and I found out that an octopus only has to decide which arm to use for the pushing-it doesn't need to decide which direction this arm will push. After knowing that, I changed some of my animatic scenes such as this part and this part:

As you can see that the difference is quite too significant and after drawing it frame by frame still doesnt seem to work at all, so I delete the kraken tentacles on those to frames and try to make it from the beginning. I drew them frame by frame which took quite long but I'm satisfied with the result which looks like this:

It looks ok, might need more developments before I actually finish my whole animation. This is the scene of the tentacles when the kraken is trying to attack Iantha (animation):

The current frame rate is 8fps. This is from frame 217 to 236.

I also looked up on some tutorials on the internet to find more references for my animation and I found a pretty good one, even though its not being animated in toonboom harmony, but I get the idea more or less from this tutorial on what it should look like:
