1. Belgium
Artists: Eddie Lateste (screenwriter) and Peyo (cartoonist)
Work: The Smurfs
At first, Peyo made a comic strips which appeared at Belgian magazine called The Smurfs. It became more popular and was adapted into a black and white animation TV series in 1960s. Sixteen years later the colourful version was made with the title The Smurfs and The Magic Flute. Most of the early Smurfs were directed by Eddie Lateste and Peyo and by the beginning of 1980s Hanna Barberra started to make the animation of it as well. Its popularity emerged even in the USA and the animation was formally released in 1983. I still read the comics and watch Smurfs animated movie even until now, I like the cuteness and friendliness they have.

2. Italy
Animator: Bruno Bozzeto
Work: Allegro Non Troppo (1976)
This animation is the combination between live action and animation using sci-fi as the main theme. It is quite confusing and boring for me, but some of the scenes are funny and the characters are clearly drawn.

3. UK
Animator: Jeff Keen
Work: The Cartoon Theatre of Dr. Gaz (1977)
It is a 1 minute long animation, there is too much scene movements and in my opinion isn't really enjoyable to watch.

Animator: Roger Mainwood
Work: Autobahn (1979)
The story starts with an alien walking through space then he falls down, swings, and he meets with several other creatures. It's quite interesting, but I don't get any moral value from it.

4. Australia/Poland
Animator: Yoram Gross
Work: Dot and the Kangaroo (1977)
Dot (the girl's character name) and the kangaroo are all cartoon, but the background is a real life photographs. When I watched this animation at class today, the kangaroo asked Dot to go into her pouch. As she comes in, the kangaroo cries because it reminds her of her baby before.

5. USA/Canada
Animator: Caroline Leaf
Work: The Street (1976)
This is absolutely wonderful, this animation is made out of sand with each different scenes. The story tells about a family with two children (a boy and a girl) and their grandma who's fallen sick. The doctor said that the grandma would die anytime, and her grandson which has been waiting for her "to pass away" so that he can takeover her room.

6. Croatia
Animator: Zdenko Gasparovic
Work: Satiemania (1978)
He used sketchbook drawings then make it into an animation. Zdenko used to work at Zagreb Film and for Hanna Barbera as well.
